Duran Duran – New Religion – bass lesson

This was the most requested song - so here it is! I'm playing the Ex-Factor in passive mode with the balance slightly in favor of the bridge pickup. This song is easy enough to fake as a beginner yet there are elements that will keep advanced players on their toes as well.

Zuma….u rock dude…I love all ur vids!

I was just curious as to if u have ever met JT or any of the other DD guys…and also how many times have u seen them live??

  2. zumazmusic says:

No man! I haven’t had the pleasure of a face to face encounter with any of the Duran members. Someday soon I hope!

I had the pleasure of meeting Andy and John (on separate occasions) several years ago…very nice guys. I’ve seen DD live 6 times (but only once with all 5) and I saw PS once and JTT once. All great shows.

You are an excellent bassist and you play JT’s stuff flawlessly. It’s really cool seeing how those great parts are played! It’s great to see John’s work shown homage. Thank You My Friend. Keep it up!

Just bought myself an 89 4 string kubicki ex factor, absolutely amazing bass. Thanx for sharing you are an inspiration. Keep up the great playing. And more kubicki playing clips up please.

    Wow!

    Sounds fantastic! What a player!!

I seriously think that Duran Duran and JT were the king of bass lines. When do you EVER hear stuff this good these days????

Todays kids need to hear stuff like this and use their imagination, bring some funk back into pop!!

    Excellent clip!

Back when that album was out I used to play bass guitar and like a lot of guys, I thought Duran Duran was just a bunch of pretty boys then, I heard this song loved the bass line so much that I learned how to play it and now at 41 years old, I see Duran Duran everytime they come to town!

  9. SDRockman says:

I would love to get that bass if you only you could get that 24th fret. I know they do a bass with 24 frets, but it doesn’t come with the D-Tuner. Would also like some kind of inlays….Tone is to die for man!! Would love to see ya playing some more Duran Duran with the Kubicki! ;-)

  10. zumazmusic says:

SD, What about the one of a kind prototype 5 string Factor? 24 frets and you wouldn’t need the D-Tuner. Check out my “View to a Kill” video to see more of the factor.

Sin duda uno de los grandes atractivos de los duranes es esa impecable ejecución del bajo, vivan por siempre.

  12. SDRockman says:

Sorry I took a while to respond, I have been going to driving school over here in Japan and their Japanese english is SO difficult to understand…I don’t really want a 5 string bass so thats why I want the 4 string with the D tuner. I really like the Aria Pro II that you have as well and getting those wouldn’t be a problem since I live in Japan these days. Only problem is that when summer comes humidity goes through the roof, so I have to careful about the next bass I buy because of this…

Brilliant!!! it’s rally cool to see JT’s work shown like this. i ageee with the poster upthread, in the 80′s John’s stuff was really funk heavy. Loved it! keep up the great work!!

Tell me Buddy…i saw the video of you playing the new Music Man Bongo…it sounds really great…cool. What about slap technic using Kubicki…Which bass is better…Music Man or Kubicki for slapping?…wich one do you like the most?.
Are you playing with Kubicki beacuse JT does?…or you really like it.
Greetings from Chile….i’m a fan of your style…thanks for the lessons my friend.

  20. zumazmusic says:

The slap tone on the Kubicki is very unique and it would win the slap tone contest against the Bongo in my opinion. Of course I was drawn to the Kubicki because of John Taylor but it is a genuinely incredible bass. The tone, the construction, the unique ideas.

Believe it or not, I sold my first Kubicki, a trans-blue beauty. The grey Kubicki in this video belonged to a dear friend of mine who passed away. I am very lucky to have it.

    Saludos!
