I wish more Americans knew about this excellent band! Thanks England!

Damn what a great song. Modern bands couldn’t write a song this good if their lives depended on it. (That includes me)

The English forgot them too! I had to travel to Austria and other places on the Continent to hear them play. They are to England as Love is to America. Two great bands, two great band leaders, under appeciated at home. I had to go see Love at Lancaster University … America was too busy throwing Arthur Lee in jail.

A classic! With their trademark descending scale – used in Sunny Afternoon.

I wish America just had some more iconic bands like England. We have a few. But more would be nice :)
    The Kinks are great.
I wish more people would listen to more of their songs and not just You Really Got Me.

My favourite song of all time. IT’s always a difficult question when people ask that, but when I hear this again, it all fits into place!

Ray davies has said in an interview that Terry and Julie aren’t the two celebrities, but that this is in fact a very personal song for him and that he could never “write for the stars”

  16. Gaffer96 says:

Oh right, cos i had heard Terrence Stamp had claimed it was ..no matter anyway it’s still a class tune.

  17. Mac2095 says:

    That i cant argue with.

I don’t know what it is about this song but I always find myself coming back to it.

I seem to prefer the Kinks over the Beatles, I can’t really subscribe to the whole “the beatles are best ever” concept that most beatles fans seem to go for.

  19. wiggy1988 says:

I wouldn’t worry too much. America has a great deal of influencial bands and Musicians.

    Jefferson Airplane
    Bob Dylan
    Pantera (for me anyway)
    Nirvana
    Pavement
    Bruce Springsteen

    etc etc.

I agree about you really got me though!

I totally agree… don’t understand the whole hype over the beatles either… what ive heard of them both the kinks outclass the beatles.. definatly lyrically… they wrote some legendary songs that seem to be undervalued compared to those of the beatles… its a shame really they deserve more recognition than they get from people my age today… in my opinion the best band from the 60′s(if not ever) This song is one of my favs… Its literally the most beautiful song ever written imo : )

The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Motown…how many do you want? And I’m English.

The Beatles have become a self fullfilling prophecy among most people.

We’re told that they are the greatest band in the world ever, and so the vast majority except it. Personally when I listened to them I thought that some of their stuff was very good, but it never hit the spot the same way that the Kinks did.

i love both the beatles and the kinks but i can see what the people mean about the beatles but they did produce some pretty special music :)

Lennon and McCartney are and always will be The Greatest

I grew up across the Beatles era and loved them…to a very great extent I still do…but the older I get the more I respect the Kinks…they were truly special…and this track especially so…
